Reading at Wychbold

Children in EYFS and Year 1 are taught to read using a phonics programme called Read Write Inc (RWI). For more information about how our phonics programme starts children off on their reading journey, please see our 'phonics' page.

 

Phonics is the proven route to fluent reading and the key to unlocking the entire curriculum. We use RWI phonics scheme as a systematic, evidence-based approach. Our phonics data evidences high attainment!

 

Reading fluency, vocabulary comprehension and reading for pleasure are taught and practiced through The Teach Hub curriculum which is carefully monitored and evaluated.

 

When you walk around our school this will be evident through:

  • Our well stocked and used library

  • Classroom access to books

  • Carefully chosen class novels/books (Drop Everything and Read sessions – DEAR)

  • Vocabulary displays which emphasise a passion for words

In Year 2-4, The Accelerated Reader programme is used as a quizzing and assessment tool to support and develop children’s comprehension when reading at home.
